Conociendo mejor a Audrey Hepburn

It is without doubt and by own merits, one of the icons of film and fashion of the twentieth century. And it is for this reason that the National Portrait Gallery in London has wanted to dedicate (until October 18) a unique exhibition entitled Portraits of an Icon. An extraordinary selection of rarely seen photographs from her personal collection are included in the exhibition, ranging from an early photograph of Audrey Hepburn as a nine year old in 1938, the portraits of her last major photo shoot, taken by Steven Meisel in 1991.

Hepburn photographs before she was famous, formal portraits and pictures taken on the set during the filming of some of her most beloved films gather at the exhibition. A tour of her busy life to have known perfectly portray some of the most prestigious photographers of the twentieth century, including Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Angus McBean, Irving Penn, Norman Parkinson and Terry O'Neill.

Each and every one of her life stages are included in this exhibition that features a woman whose life continues to capture the interest and admiration of many.

Born in Brussels, Belgium (1929), a Dutch baroness and an Anglo-Irish father, Hepburn moved to London from Amsterdam in late 1948 to take up a scholarship at Ballet Rambert Ballet School in Notting Hill. After a series of important theatrical performances as a singer in the West End, Hepburn made her first screen debuts in British films. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Hepburn's career flourished with a series of functions of great success and became the first actress to win an Oscar, a Golden Globe and BAFTA for a single performance (for her starring role in Vacaciones en Roma, 1953). Hepburn worked as an ambassador for UNICEF from 1988 until her death in 1993. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1992 in recognition of her contribution to the arts and humanitarian work.
